PTARMIGAN HUNTING

Certain years, the ptarmigan are plentiful. To thrive, ptarmigan need varied biotopes: areas with osier, damp areas and varied terrain. All this is to be found in the mountains west of Adolfström. Our policy is to plan your ptarmigan hunt in an area where you will not be bothered by other hunters.

We recommend only areas where we know there are ptarmigan. We ourselves go to these areas in advance and investigated the occurrence of ptarmigan just before the season opens. Jan hunts ptarmigan in the winter and therefore is very knowledgeable about their habits and habitats. Wherever there are ptarmigan later in spring they will also be when the autumn hunting season begins.

We sell a limited number of hunting permits, which is why we have a good opportunity to control the hunting. A smaller number of hunters means a more enjoyable hunting experience.

You can stay in our cabins, fly by helicopter, with Jan as a guide, for some miles into the mountains, where it is almost impossible not to bag ptarmigan. An autumn day or a spring day spent hunting ptarmigan, return to top-class accommodation, a sauna and a good dinner. What more can you ask?

Let us make a suggestion for a three-day hunting break.
Day 1.

Arrival during the day, cabin accommodation. A three-course dinner awaits you in the restaurant, where only local delicacies are served. Your host will provide information about the next day's hunting.

Day 2.
After breakfast, the helicopter will transport us thirty kilometres (twenty miles) westwards into the mountains. In a certain area there we will be able to hunt in complete solitude during the day. We will take lunch with us, or have it provided by the host. Coffee, dried reindeer meat (jerky) and goat's cheese are always in our rucksacks. Return home, sauna and dinner.

Day 3.
Breakfast followed by a helicopter trip to another area, 40 km (25 miles) away. We follow the meandering waters of the River Lais up through the valley. It is a fantastic experience to sit and look down from the helicopter and to discover the rolling landscape, its water meadows, sandy shores, rapids and waterfalls; and elk quietly foraging or striding along. Today we will be hunting at the top of the valley, near Lais Cottage. After hunting we await the helicopter for the return home, a sauna and dinner.

Day 4.
After breakfast, yet another area is awaiting us. A more alpine area, with tall osier alternating with treeless mountains. And this day's hunting too will be rounded of with a sauna and a three-course dinner. Journey home the next day.

Welcome to a hunting experience in the mountains.
